What are payments on account?
These are payments that you can make in advance if you are self-employed. When you receive your tax bill, it could also include payments on account for next year’s taxes. This is the case if you do not pay the taxes on your self-employed income until the end of the year. You will have to pay this amount if less than 80% of the taxes you owe was collected at the source. If the amount of tax that you pay is less than £500, then you won’t have to make payments on account.
